Creative ways to store your winter shoes in the summer
Summer has finally arrived. We can now fully enjoy shorts, sundresses, and most importantly – light shoes and sandals. With the temperatures rising, the need for lighter clothing is rising as well, while all our heavy winter gear needs to be stored for future use when winter is come again. For this reason, you don’t want your winter shoes to be a complete mess when you need them again. You’ll want them stored in a nice, efficient way that will let you find them quickly and efficiently, and so that you don’t need to spend too much time making them look presentable.
As winter shoes are designed to protect you from the cold of the outside, there is one characteristic they have that makes storage that much more problematic – their bulkiness. Winter shoes are usually large and heavy, making just throwing them into a closet not the brightest idea – not only are they hard to fit, but it’s easy to damage their leather. Because of this, you want a proper storage space that will, first and foremost, help you keep your shoes in shape over the summer. Keep these following tips in mind to help prepare your shoes for their eventual unboxing in the summer months.

Clean them before storing
Use a brush to get rid of any dirt and dust from your boots before you put them in your storage area. If the dirt has the time to settle, it can permanently damage the leather. Begin cleaning by using a damp cloth to remove any stuck mud and later use a cloth to wipe the shoe, and wipe away any excess dirt with a leather brush.
Use shoe trees to preserve the shoe’s shape
Purchase a pair of shoe trees for each of your winter shoe pairs to help preserve their shape over the winter. When unused, leather boots can settle into a certain position, leaving creases and bends in undesirable spots, so tree shoes are a great way to prevent that.

Give your shoes some air
While keeping your shoes in boxes is good for their shape, no air can lead to mould developing. For this reason, make sure you take them out once in a while so as to prevent that from happening.
When it’s time to put them on, remember to use conditioner!
Over time, leather can become harder and stiffer, making your boots far less comfortable to wear. To prevent this, as soon as you take out your shoes for the winder, apply leather conditioner. It will not only soften them, but also vastly improve their appearance.
